Fall Camping

Labor day may bring the end of summer, but it doesn’t bring the end of outdoor fun!  Fall is one of the best times for tent camping!

This weekend the boys and I packed up and hit the wilds of Bull Run Regional Park for some serious communing with nature.  After a full day of school the boys were excited to get some fresh air and even more excited to get the campfire going.  Everyone knows what a campfire means…S’mores!

Bull Run Park is one of our very favorite places to go camping.  It’s close to home, well maintained and the facilities are top notch.  If you’re camping in the summer there is even Atlantis water park!

We got a bit of a late start, but before long we had a roaring fire going and our hobo packs full of corn, zucchini, potatoes and Wegman’s Brats were cooking away.  Is it just me or does just about anything taste better if it’s cooked over a campfire?

While the Hobo packs cooked up the boys managed to put up the tent (with only minimal adult assistance) and we were ready for the night!

Our home for the night.

There is something truly magical about sleeping under the stars with your little people all asleep close together.

So magical is a night in the woods that it may even result in your teenaged son talking and smiling with his mother!

So, yes, camping is a little extra work, extra work like making pancakes over a campfire.

But in the end, it’s really all worth it!

This is what makes it all worthwhile.
